Paul Haggis is a Canadian screenwriter, film director, and producer. He won Academy Awards for best picture for the films Million Dollar Baby (2004) and Crash (2004). His film credits include Flags of Our Fathers (2006), Casino Royale (2006), and The Next Three Days (2010). He’s worked on TV shows like ‘Due South’, ‘Family Law’ and ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’. Haggis drew early inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock and Jean-Luc Godard. He began his career as a screenwriter for television shows in the 1970s. His early credits include Heathcliff, The Love Boat, Diff’rent Strokes, One Day at a Time, and The Facts of Life. Haggis served as producer, writer, and director for the ABC series Thirtysomething (1987-88). He created the crime series ‘Due South’ for CTV and CBS. It ran for 4 seasons from April 1994 to March 1999. The series won two Emmy Awards, including one for outstanding drama series. Haggis co-created the CBS series Walker, Texas Ranger (1993-2001) and Family Law (1999-2002). His television credits also include City, EZ Streets, The Black Donnellys, and Show Me a Hero.

Haggis’ directorial debut was the drama, Red Hot (1993). His first big project was Clint Eastwood‘s Million Dollar Baby (2004). He wrote the film’s screenplay and served as a producer. ‘Million Dollar Baby’ won 4 Oscars, including for best picture. Haggis won two more Oscars for the drama film, Crash (2004). It was dubbed the best film of 2005 by American critic Roger Ebert. Haggis directed the films In the Valley of Elah (2007) starring Tommy Lee Jones, The Next Three Days (2010) starring Russell Crowe, and Third Person (2013) starring Liam Neeson.
