People always pop up and bid.

Usually if I see a figure without bidders I arrange for my proxy to place a sniper bid. But if someone else bids afterwards I just quit the bidding.

I feel like bidding through a proxy is a bit too convoluted to engage into a bid war, and I can't honestly see the end of it.

Sure it's a nice price when I found it, but if I keep pushing I feel like the difference between the bid and retail price is going to be very small. So then it'd be the same to buy it without a proxy!

Needless to say I never win.

Could I get some advise on how to handle myself better at these things? Really interested in hearing to other people's experiences.

Oh and for the record, I'm not talking about grail purchases. I'm talking about your usual try-to-buy-under-retail.
