The views are reason enough to go there. Lahaina Fish Co. offers two floors of panoramic oceanfront dining in its prime spot on Front Street with breathtaking Maui sunsets nightly and boat, fish and Neighbor Island action daily.

The food is also crazy good with fresh ahi sashimi, steamed clams, lobster ceviche and six varieties of Hawaiian fish daily along with crunchy salads and the tempting Tutu’s Dark Secret dessert.

Parking is validated for three hours at the Outlets of Maui mall, and prices are really  reasonable for a restaurant right in the heart of the historic district. Oh yes, and locals get 15 percent off their entire check with valid Hawaii identification.

Lahaina Fish Co. is highly recommended and has been since it opened on the 800 block of Front Street between Lahaina Yacht Club and Kimo’s 26 years ago.

“There are some new and exciting places in town, like Paia Fish Co. in the old Burger King location and the soon-to-open Dirty Monkey upstairs in the old Moose’s,” says Managing Partner Del Uehara, who’s been with the company since 1998. “New places add a buzz and high energy to town and we welcome them.”

Speaking of buzz, Lahaina Fish Co. will be right in the thick of the Halloween action on Monday.

“The Lahaina community has done a great job of toning it down and controlling it, but it’s still super busy,” says Uehara, who has dressed as a Minion, the Incredible Hulk and a pirate in the past.

With 50 to 60 seats on each floor and the cozy Hammerhead Bar with its nautical theme, Lahaina Fish Co. adds character to the building. Halloween or no, the bar is a fun place to hang out and $5 mai tais are poured from noon to 5 p.m. daily.

“Live Well, Eat Well” is the restaurant’s motto, and Executive Chef Keith Salvador is a local boy who knows how to do justice to his well-rounded menu.

Salvador says his food is “progressive” and that he touches on trends, such as gluten-free and vegetarian items, but he still serves “the home runs that people come to Hawaii for, including cream sauces and butter to try to balance the menu out.”

You’ll find wok-fried Brussels sprouts, Upcountry arugula salads, classic wedges, steamed broccoli, asparagus in garlic-chile sauce, roasted seasonal squash, and taro and lentil “steak” as healthful choices among the many other options.

“We have at least six varieties of fresh fish daily, including opah, ahi, monchong, ono, opakapaka, moi, mahimahi and different types of sea bass,” says Uehara. “Our menu is well balanced and trendy with gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian offerings. Chef does specials daily and nightly.”

But it doesn’t stop there. Savor Hawaiian seafood paella, bamboo-steamed fish, mahi katsu, fresh seafood chowder and seafood laulau, a Taste of Lahaina winner. You may also sink your teeth into award-winning prime rib, crusted in Hawaiian sea salt and slow roasted; fire-roasted bison; Maui-style barbecue pork ribs; and 12-ounce certified Angus ribeye steaks.

“For Thanksgiving, we’ll do a traditional turkey dinner and a turkey sandwich for lunch. You can top it with a Mana Pie or a Tutu’s Dark Secret for dessert.”
