According to a news release, beginning July 1 listeners can tune in to BYU Radio, the newest addition to the SiriusXM's satellite radio channel lineup. BYU Radio is found on channel 143.
BYU Radio offers a unique perspective, the press release stated, on our shared world and times from the standpoint of people throughout the northern hemisphere who feel either deeply connected to or culturally sympathetic with the aims and values of Brigham Young University. It's informed conversation, news that matters, topics that enlighten, ideas that educate, and plenty of Cougar Sports.
Shows like "The Tantara Hour," featuring music from BYU's own record label, Tantara Records; "The Morning Conversation," showcasing the events, topics, features and information that really can make a difference in the day to come; and "Sunday School Scriptures," beautifully read passages of scripture that correspond with weekly Sunday School lessons for LDS members and believers everywhere will be featured on the broadcasts.
In April BYU Radio was named one of five channels given lease space on the satellite system in a push for new "diversity" channels. According to an article in the Deseret News, the decision means that BYU Radio will go from a small "narrow-cast" internet-based radio channel to a nationwide satellite offering, reaching hundreds of thousands more listeners.
According to the Deseret News article, BYU Radio got the opportunity thanks to a business merger between Sirius and XM, which included a rule from the Federal Communications Commission that Sirius XM allocate four-percent of the full-time audio channels on both platforms for content not associated with their company.
