Three years after The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints revamped its magazines, Church members can now subscribe to them for free.
“The Church wants to give greater access to the words of the prophets, and we are excited to make the printed copies of the Church magazines available at no cost,” said Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles when the announcement was first made in August 2023.
Under this new subscription method, each household is allowed to subscribe to one of each of the three magazines — the Liahona, For the Strength of Youth and Friend.
The August announcement said a new subscription process would take months to roll out to most Church members. In the six months since, various regions of the Church have begun using the new system. The physical versions of all three magazines are now available in 50 languages to those wanting to subscribe and have the magazine in their homes. The content in Church magazines can help individuals with their study of “Come, Follow Me” and other topics of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“We come closer to Jesus Christ as we consistently participate in gospel study in the home,” Elder Uchtdorf said.
The Church launched new versions of its monthly magazines for children, youth and adults in January 2021.
How to subscribe to or purchase Church magazines
Anyone with a Church account — the same one used to login to ChurchofJesusChrist.org and Gospel Library — may sign up to receive the magazines without paying for a subscription.
An adult in a household who has a Church account may manage subscriptions for his or her home at MagazineSubscriptions.ChurchofJesusChrist.org. Those who do not currently have a Church account may sign up for one at account.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
Once subscribed, households will receive the first copies of their selected magazines within six to eight weeks.
Individuals may also sign up for monthly notifications when the newest issue of each magazine is released on the Church’s website and in Gospel Library. The option to subscribe to these emails is at the bottom of the magazine subscription page.
The Gospel Library app can notify users of new magazine content, as well. Under Settings, users can select Notifications and New Content to see the toggles available for each magazine and the YA Weekly content for young adults.
Single copies of the current month’s issue of any magazine may be purchased on the Church’s online store at store.ChurchofJesusChrist.org. Some issues are also available in Church distribution centers and inside Deseret Book locations.
What are the Church’s magazines?
The Liahona magazine contains content written for adults and highlights the teachings and ministry of Church leaders, shares inspiring articles that show how to apply gospel principles, supports learning the gospel at home and provides insight into scriptural topics, according to the Church’s website.
For the Strength of Youth magazine has spiritually uplifting messages from Apostles and other Church leaders, testimonies and experiences from youth all over the world, activities, and inspiration and strength to help youth find joy as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
The Friend magazine shows children worldwide ways they can follow Jesus Christ. Each issue contains scripture stories, messages written at a reading level for children from prophets and other Church leaders, games and coloring pages, and stories of children throughout the world who are demonstrating their faith in the Savior.
Ward council support
Members of the ward council can help individuals subscribe who need assistance with the new online subscription process. Those individuals must give the ward council member permission to process a subscription on their behalf. They may also, with parental permission, help children and youth subscribe whose parents do not attend church with them and do not want to create a Church account to subscribe.
Those ward council members will find this option in the Leader and Clerk Resources, or LCR, section of ChurchofJesusChrist.org under Reports and Magazine Subscriptions.
The Church has created an FAQ page on its website to help answer questions about the new subscription process.
