    Brooks alongside Matt are the founders of the band. Brooks and music director/guitarist Matt Taylor met in high school in the beach town of Dana Point, California, bonding over surfing, skating, and partying. The duo was offered a chance to perform at a house party. They took in the chance and wrote their first six sings. This led to the first incarnation of the band that would eventually become The Growlers.

    The duo released several self-recorded cassettes and CDs. They made their name The Growlers. They were issued their first studio album, Are You In or Out? in the year 2009 under Everloving Records. Their second album was Hot Tropics which they released in the year 2010 under Everloving Records.
